Central Asia, once part of the powerful Persian Empire, was transformed by Islam and more recently, freed from the
Yoke of the USSR, evolving into dictatorships supported by enormous oil revenues.

Men like Tamerland and Ghengis Khan were brutal and brilliant, both destroyers and empire builders of grand
design.  They created cities that still tingle the imagination and delight the senses;  Samarkand, Bukaha, Tashkent,
and Ashgabad.

Bill personally takes you to the ancient camel caravans, the fabled mausoleums and unequalled Mosques, the
harems, visiting the people and their cultures so curious and mysterious to the western mind.
